Sixteen years beneath the Arctic sky, turned into a working knowledge of light, weather, and timing that Andy now shares with every guest he guides.
Since 2008, Andy has spent over 10,000 hours in the field — guiding thousands of travellers toward the Northern Lights with a documented success rate of roughly 95%.
That record comes from a combination of practical field experience, careful planning around space weather, and a refusal to treat a clear night as luck rather than groundwork. It’s made Andy one of the UK’s most experienced aurora specialists, and the reason his photography and writing have been published by The Guardian, Sky & Telescope, Wanderlust, Daily Mail and American Express Travel.
His work has also carried him on-screen and behind the camera for television: he appeared in the BBC’s BAFTA-nominated Little Stargazing, and worked on Die Sonne (The Sun), a Spiegel TV production broadcast internationally by ARTE France, Curiosity Stream and ZDF — later awarded the Medienpreis Luft- und Raumfahrt for excellence in science communication.
In 2025, Andy founded Keen Astro, bringing astrophotography, astronomy education and small-group Arctic expeditions together under one roof. Whether it’s a dancing aurora over Swedish Lapland, a deep-sky imaging session, or a masterclass in processing the result, the aim stays the same: real science, careful planning, and enough genuine enthusiasm to make it contagious.
